Communication Access Realtime Translation, or CART, is an instant speech to text translation of the spoken word using a Stenotype machine to translate from Steno into English using Realtime translation software. The text will appear on the computer screen utilized by the end user. 

Realtime Captioning is primarily used for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, have vision impairments, use cochlear implants/hearing aids, or other types of disabilities. Realtime Captioning is also used for hearing individuals such as an individual learning the English language or in any setting to make an event ADA compliant. 

Realtime Captioning is utilized anywhere communication access is needed such as for students in a classroom, attendees at a conference or convention, or new hire employees in training. 

Other venues include weddings, funerals, courtroom appearances, doctor appointments, or other types of meetings.

CART or Realtime Captioning is required in any setting under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when requested by individuals in order to ensure equal access and equal opportunity. 

Transcription Services provide the client with a transcript of the words spoken at different events where Realtime is not requested.

A transcript can also be produced for recorded meetings, seminars, conference calls, sermons, and much more.

Remote CART is being utilized more and more for many reasons. Remote CART is the same as on-site CART. The only difference is the captioner is in a remote location and not onsite in the same room as the client. This works well for clients in remote locations. Instead of sending a captioner to the location, we can provide CART services via internet with an easy set up. This allows Heart Captioning to caption for any client anywhere in the world in any situation for any event!
